MALCHERT-WATCHEN – from our own workshop

When and how should the watch be wound?

We advise you to wind the watch at approximately the same time every day so that the movement is supplied with the necessary energy for the next 24 hours to function properly.

Maintenance and care of a watch

A mechanical watch should be repaired or overhauled after a certain period of time. At the latest when the watch no longer performs its task correctly, a visit to the watchmaker is unavoidable. As a rule, a complete overhaul of the watch is only necessary every five years, during which the rubber seals are replaced and the oils renewed. For this work, the movement must be disassembled.

waterproofness

Waterproof watch cases should be checked for leaks by a watchmaker at least once a year, always before the summer. The materials used for sealing, such as rubber or plastics, age and become fragile and porous over time. This can cause supposedly watertight watches to leak when they jump into the water and damage the sensitive movement.

Watch cleaning

Dirt can best be removed with a slightly moistened cloth. Do not use cleaning agents under any circumstances. These important sealing rings on the crown and bottom cover of water-resistant watches in particular can attack and cause the watch to leak.

leather bracelet

In the case of leather straps, you should never use running water, soap or chemicals for cleaning, otherwise edges and colour changes could form in the leather. When worn daily, leather straps have a service life of about one to two years. These intervals are also recommended for hygienic reasons.

Storage of wristwatches

Wristwatches should be stored in a dry and dust-free environment, such as a special watch box. The watch cases should be separated from each other to prevent scratching. Direct exposure to sunlight or light should also be avoided, as this can affect dials and hands in particular. Dirt and fatty acids from the skin can damage the watch in the long term. Therefore, the watch should be wiped carefully with a soft cloth if it is not used for a long time.
